Most people get into the sports betting industry for a chance to win some big money, and one bettor had that occur over the weekend. The bettor in question placed a $10 parlay bet at BetMGM Sportsbook and turned that small wager into a payday of over $100,000.
The bettor placed an 11-team parlay that included games from several different sports and hit on all of them. Here are the bets that were included in this winning parlay bet:
- Appalachian State under
- Arkansas State moneyline
- Army under
- Coastal Carolina moneyline
- Duke +20.5
- Georgia Tech moneyline
- Iowa State under
- North Carolina under
- Rockets-Lakers under
- UTSA moneyline
- Yankees moneyline
CFB Games Were Close Calls
Hitting just one college football game can be stressful for most bettors, but this particular bettor had to sweat it out through nine college football games. There were several close calls in this parlay, but all of them went the right way for the bettor and the wrong way for the sportsbook.
Two of the most impressive bets were made on a pair of double-digit underdogs. Both Georgia Tech and Arkansas State were massive underdogs on Saturday, but they were able to come through with a victory to help set up this huge parlay.
Coastal Carolina was also a road underdog against Big-12 opponent Kansas State, but they were able to come away with a victory late Saturday night.
Perhaps the most nerve-wracking win for the BetMGM bettor was the UTSA moneyline bet that went down to the wire. In fact, the game went into double-overtime, but UTSA was able to come away with a 51-48 win over Texas State on Saturday.
MLB, NBA Also Down to Wire
If the college football games weren’t close enough for the bettor, the MLB and NBA games provided extra drama. The New York Yankees needed to win the game on Saturday to keep the parlay alive, and that game required extra innings before it was decided.
A 10th inning sacrifice fly by Luke Voit gave the Yankees a 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles to keep the bet alive. In the NBA game, the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets combined to score 215 points, which was just 2.5 points under the betting line.
Sports Betting Industry Continues to Grow
The sports betting industry throughout the United States continues to grow, and New Jersey is now leading the way. New Jersey posted a total sports betting handle of more than $668 million in August 2020.
New Jersey set the all-time sports betting handle mark for one single month, but other states saw huge increases as well. Pennsylvania set a new state record with a sports betting handle total of $365 million in August.
The industry is expected to continue to post some huge numbers for the remainder of 2020 now that the National Football League has kicked off their 2020 season.
