New York online sports betting officially launched on January 8, and this ended a long and difficult process for the state and for state lawmakers. This state has had retail sports betting in place since 2019, but there hasn’t been a ton of growth in this industry.
When online sports betting first became available, there were four sportsbook operators that were ready to launch. DraftKings and FanDuel were among the first to go live, and BetRivers and Caesars Sportsbook were in the group as well.
One operator, BetMGM, was missing from the first wave of online sportsbooks, but that is set to change on Monday, January 17. BetMGM has finally received approval from the New York State Gaming Commission, and it will be the fifth online sports betting operator approved in the state.
There were actually nine online sportsbook operators that received initial approval from the NYSGC, but the rest of the group will be launching on a rolling basis. BetMGM is a product of MGM Resorts International, and it has become one of the biggest online sports betting options in the United States.

BetMGM is the official sports betting partner of Madison Square Garden, and MGM Resorts owns and operates the Resorts’ Empire City in the state of New York. Teams that play at the iconic venue are going to be a major focus for the sportsbook, and BetMGM will also focus on horse racing as well.
According to BetMGM, a rewards program will be available immediately, and customers can cash in at the MGM-owned racetracks and casino properties in the area.
Still Plenty of NFL Left
BetMGM is missing out on the first five games of the NFL Playoffs, but there is still plenty of action remaining. Both of the teams from New York/New Jersey missed out on the playoffs yet again, and that will soften the blow for BetMGM.
The NFL continues to be the most popular sport to wager on in the United States, especially when it is time for the postseason. The other sportsbooks have been running promotions centered around the NFL, and BetMGM could be offering odds boosts as well.
Odds to Win NFL
BetMGM might be missing out on some terrific NFL action in the Super Wild Card Round, but it will still accept futures bets on the eventual Super Bowl champion. These odds have been available throughout the season, but they changed quite a bit entering the 2022 postseason.
The Green Bay Packers entered the playoffs as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl with odds set at +350. The next two teams on the list are from the AFC, and they are the Buffalo Bills (+450) and the Kansas City Chiefs (+500).
These odds will continue to change as the playoffs move along, and all bets will be available at BetMGM online in New York.
