The Golden State Warriors won the 2021-22 NBA Championship, defeating the Boston Celtics in a thrilling six-game series. That was the fourth title for the Warriors in the last eight years, and the state of California has absolutely dominated the NBA over the past decade.
Betting odds are already out for the 2022-22 NBA champion, and it looks to be another great year for teams from the state of California. None of the local teams are favored to win the title, but a handful of them are in the mix.
The Boston Celtics are the betting favorites to be crowned NBA champion in 2023 as they have odds set at +500. Following the Celtics are the Milwaukee Bucks (+550) and the Phoenix Suns at +650.
After those top three teams, you then have a run of three straight teams from the state of California. The Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors are both at +700 to win the title in 2023, and the Los Angeles Lakers are next on the list at +1200.
Those odds for the Lakers could move significantly over the next few months as they are expected to transform the roster a bit. LeBron James and Anthony Davis will still be in the fold, but those two superstars need some help.
Western Conference is Loaded
Winning the Western Conference might be a harder task than winning the NBA title, especially if you believe what the odds tell you. The odds at the top are extremely tight, and this conference always seems to have some surprises in the playoffs as well.
Phoenix is the leader to win the West with odds set at +340, but the Warriors (+350) and the Clippers (+360) are in the mix as well. Getting the top overall seed in the regular season could decide how the playoffs play out, and those three teams will be in a battle.
The Lakers have some work to do if they are going to win the West, as they have odds set at +600.
Two-Team Race in the East?
The Eastern Conference has become much more competitive over the last few years, especially with the teams at the top. Boston won the Eastern Conference in 2022, and they are the favorites to win it again at +220.
The Milwaukee Bucks are a recent NBA champion, and they have odds set at +250 heading into next season. It appears as if the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers are in the mix as well, but those two teams have work to do if they want to catch the leaders.
Curry Among MVP Favorites
Stephen Curry was finally able to add a Finals MVP to his resume during the 2022 NBA Finals, but he would love to win another league MVP. Curry has odds set at +1300 entering the season, which puts him in the conversation.
Luka Doncic is actually the favorite at +490, and Joel Embiid is next on the list at +600. Surprisingly, LeBron is all the way down at +3000, and Anthony Davis is at +6500.
