There’s never a dull moment in the NBA, with rumors swirling while free agency begins and teams looking to either make a push for the postseason or rebuild their teams for the future.
Let’s take a look at the teams with the best odds heading into next season at this point in time.
Phoenix Suns – +600
The Suns fizzled out in the playoffs this past year, as Devin Booker and Chris Paul both ran out of gas.
However, help could be on the way in the name of Kevin Durant, as the Suns are favored ahead of the Brooklyn Nets, KD’s current team, to have him on their roster at the start of next season.
Age and injuries can be a concern to KD and CP3, but if health holds up, this team is easily the most dangerous contender next season.
Golden State Warriors – +625
The defending champion Warriors will be bringing back Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Jordan Poole, which makes for a powerful core.
However, age and injuries are also a concern with this team, and it’s extremely hard to repeat as champions.
If Curry continues to play elite-level basketball, though, then this team will be right back in the mix for a championship.
Boston Celtics – +650
The defending Eastern Conference champions will be led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown unless they manage to get Durant on a package centered around Brown.
The addition of Malcolm Brogdon gives them a bonafide point guard who can create for his teammates and break down opposing defenses off the dribble and make you pay from three.
With the defensive pedigree and dangerous offense the Celtics possess, this team is a huge threat to get back to the Finals and win.
Los Angeles Clippers – +700
Kawhi Leonard will be back and healthy next season, as he and Paul George make for a deadly duo on both ends of the floor.
Add in the addition of John Wall and all the depth they possess out on the wings in terms of floor spacers and defenders, and this team can legitimately win it all if health and chemistry holds up.
Milwaukee Bucks – +750
So long as Giannis Antetokounmpo is there, the Bucks will always be a threat to win it all. If Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday can stay healthy, then this team may be able to seal the deal for the second time in three years.
Miami Heat – +1000
The Heat are rumored to be in on the Durant and/or Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes, but even if they don’t land either of them, a duo of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo could get the Heat far if Tyler Herro provides a scoring lift and Kyle Lowry can stay healthy as the floor general.
Los Angeles Lakers – +1200
Heavily rumored to be in on the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes, a trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Irving can be deadly if health is there and they’re able to mesh.
LeBron and Kyrie have a track record of success as teammates, and if they reunite, we can perhaps see them win a championship together.
If Kyrie doesn’t end up here, then the Lakers’ odds will likely decrease significantly as the season goes on.
Philadelphia 76ers – +1200
James Harden is almost certainly going to return, and with him getting a training camp in with the team, he should be able to find his niche in Philly.
Joel Embiid will continue to play MVP-level basketball so long as he’s healthy, and Tyrese Maxey should get even better.
This team is a wildcard for sure.
