The sports betting industry in Iowa set a new state record in September, and it could set the tone for some huge months to end 2021. The total sports betting handle for the month was $210.4 million, which was an increase of more than 94 percent from the August total.
Not only has the state of Iowa seen plenty of growth in 2021, but the September 2021 total was an increase of nearly 200 percent from September a year ago. New online sportsbooks are affecting the total handle, but the start of the 2021 NFL season has also caused a surge.
Iowa online sports betting once again led the way in September, accounting for over $186 million in total bets. While the entire sports betting industry in the state has experienced a boost, it has been the online sports betting that has carried the market.
Despite the massive jump in total sports betting handle, the total sports betting revenue actually dropped in the month of September. Iowa sportsbooks combined for a total revenue of just $5.7 million after that total was up to $6.6 million in August.
Isle Casino Leads the Way
The Isle Casino was the big winner for the state of Iowa during the month of September as it had a total sports betting handle of over $33 million. Caesars Sportsbook is partnered with the Isle Casino, and that has helped that location become a leader in the state.
Both DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbook are also live in the state of Iowa, and those operators were next on the list behind Caesars. Even though Iowa has been dominated with online sports betting, retail betting in the state has allowed Caesars to emerge as a top operator.
Circa Sports Set to Launch
The Iowa online sports betting industry is set to grow yet again as Circa Sports has been approved to launch its online app. Circa Sports is a major name in the state of Las Vegas, but Iowa is only the second market outside of Nevada to see this option.
Circa Sports was able to enter the state of Iowa by partnering with the Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Clinton, Iowa. This new operator offers many unique features that could allow it to become a favorite of sports bettors throughout the Hawkeye State.
Iowa Hawkeyes Climbing the Polls
Even though the state of Iowa doesn’t have a professional football team to drive sports betting, there is a massive focus on the sport of college football. The Iowa Hawkeyes just picked up a massive victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday to stay undefeated.
Iowa has now moved up to number 2 in the latest AP poll, and they are in the driver seat to win the Big Ten Conference this season. The Hawkeyes are going to continue to draw plenty of betting attention, and winning the College Football Playoff would result in a massive payday for bettors.
Currently, the Iowa Hawkeyes are just +4000 to win the National Championship despite being the second-ranked team in the country.
