Single-game sports betting is now available in Canada, and one of the most important companies in Canada is making a big move. One day before single game sports betting launched, theScore signed a deal with Golf Canada.
This new partnership will make theScore the official gaming partner of Golf Canada, and it is an exclusive deal. This is the first time that Golf Canada has reached an agreement with an official gaming partner and it will impact the national golf championships.
This new partnership does not officially take effect until 2022, but it will give theScore some time to start producing original media content to be used at the two biggest events. The RBC Canadian Open and the CP Women’s Open are both scheduled to take place in Ontario for 2022, but that could be extended for future years as well.
This new partnership will not have any real impact on single-game sports wagering for the first few months, but it could make these events big betting markets moving forward.
Big Name Sportsbooks Coming
When Canada officially launched single-game sports betting on Friday, it did so through provincial lotteries offering the betting. This has created some serious issues in Canada and it will limit the growth of the market.
Later on, in 2021, big-name sports betting operators are expected to join the market, and that is when things will really start to take off. theScore will be one of those comapnies that can offer bets on sporting events, but it is going to have some competition.
Companies such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and PointsBet are three of the names that have expressed interest in launching in Canada.
PGA Also Involved
Getting involved in the golf scene is not new to theScore as it has already been working with the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour named theScore one of its official sports betting partners back in March and that covers both the United States and Canada.
Through this partnership, theScore receives promotional and advertisement opportunities on live PGA Tour radio broadcasts. Live odds updates are announced via those channels, and it is noted that they are coming from theScore.
Golf is still not one of the largest sports betting markets in the United States, but the PGA Tour has made a strong push to be recognized.
theScore Not Leaving Canada
There have been several international operators that are starting to focus more on the United States, but that clearly isn’t the case with theScore. Not only is the company continuing to expand the partnership in its home country, but it is also looking to improve its operations.
Last week it was announced that theScore will be leasing will be leasing space in the Innovation Centre in Toronto. This is an 80,000 square foot space and came after Score Media and Gaming and Menkes Developments were able to reach a new deal.
Even though theScore has started to explore new opportunities in the United States, it is committed to becoming one of the leading sports betting operators in Canada.
