The New York Yankees entered the MLB Playoffs as the fifth-seed in the American League after finishing second in the American League East. The Yankees wasted little time in advancing by dispatching the Cleveland Indians in just two games.
Things will get harder for the Yankees in Round 2 as they take on the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays finished the 2020 regular season with a 40-20 record and finished seven games ahead of the Yankees in the Division.
New York has been swinging the bats well so far in the postseason, especially Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton had a pair of home runs in the victory over the Indians, and he gives the team a huge boost when he is healthy.
Gerrit Cole is expected to take the mound for the Yankees in Game 1 of the best-of-five series, and he will likely be opposed by Blake Snell. The Tampa Bay Rays don’t have many big names in their everyday lineup, but this team continues to win games.
New York is currently listed at +410 to win the World Series, and those odds have changed significantly since the playoffs began.
AL West Powers Collide in Round 2
The other series in the American League will feature the Oakland Athletics against the Houston Astros. The Astros and A’s have developed a terrific rivalry over the last decade, and there is plenty of bad blood when these teams take the field.
FanDuel Sportsbook has the Oakland Athletics at -136 to win the series, while the Houston Astros are listed at +116. Houston finished the 2020 regular season with a record of 29-31, seven games behind the Oakland A’s in the American League West.
Braves Huge Favorites Over Marlins
The Miami Marlins were the biggest surprise entering the 2020 playoffs, and it’s even a bigger shock to see them in round 2. Miami swept the Chicago Cubs in two games to set up a showdown with the Atlanta Braves.
The Atlanta Braves are -300 to win the series over the Miami Marlins, which is the biggest spread out of all the series. Atlanta finished the 2020 season with a record of 35-25 to win the National League East by four games.
Atlanta has yet to give up a run so far in the 2020 postseason, and their pitching staff will look to carry them to the NLCS.
Dodgers/Padres Will Be A Show
The two best teams in the National League will meet up in round 2 as the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers won the National League West by six games this season, but the Padres were in the race all season long.
FanDuel has the Los Angeles Lakers at -250 to win this series, while the San Diego Padres are listed at +210. The Dodgers are also huge favorites to win the World Series with odds as low as +250 at FanDuel.
Los Angeles swept the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round, and San Diego got past the St. Louis Cardinals in three games.
